In 2015 SA Health commissioned a report into suicide in South Australia, the final report was published in August 2016. The report determined that from 2005 to 2013, there were 855 people who had died by suicide in South Australia, 543 males and 312 females. The age group with the highest number of deaths were between 15 and 19 years old. The Suicide Report made twenty recommendations, stating that they were directed at the State Government of South Australia and the CEO of SA Health, Tony Sherbon. The recommendations included a review of the Integrated Service Delivery Model, a review of the capacity and capability of SA Health to prevent suicide, recommendations on addressing mental health stigma, reviewing the availability of essential after hours mental health services and reviewing suicide prevention for Aboriginal communities.
